Raleigh Landis wasn't sure what he had done, but he knew he had dug his own grave and buried himself in it when he questioned his boss's request as some sort of joke in her own office. The steely look the red head leveled him said it all, and it wasn't long before Raleigh gruffly excused himself to go load his horse into one of the single horse trailers and drove off to the snoring alpaca fiber farm. What a fucking mouthful of a name for a farm. He vaguely knew the owner, Taylor Way, if only here and there from her visits to the ranch to hang out with Kegan from time to time, or out in town at a bar, but as always, the man kept his distance. He was good at that, it was one of his specialties. Raleigh didn't care to get close with people, and he wasn't sure who he feared more - them or himself.
It didn't matter now though, not today at least, as Kegan had banished him off property to take care of a request that sounded so outlandish, it might have been in some stupid romance book or movie or, what, fanfiction? Was that what it was called? Didn't matter, none of his thoughts or opinions could get him out of going. The melodies of BOC, Kansas, and oddly, Duran Duran, carried him through the drive as the ranchlands melded to wild lands to other farmlands. As he approached the main road to the farm now, he slowed down before turning onto the property, making a wide turn to make up for the trailer but still keeping it to the travel - a white house with a red barn looming before him. No doubt there was more to the property behind back.
And sure enough, as he pulled through, it opened up to more green lands and picture-esque pastures. Raleigh parked the car, and got out now, his cerulean eyes taking everything in. He saw a few alpaca now as well, and began to realize he may have overpacked his arsenals in bringing his horse. Still, he unloaded the gelding now, and tied him up to the truck. It was then that Raleigh Landis had the unmistaken feeling that he was being watched. He looked over now, and saw a woman approaching, "Taylor, hey," he greeted now, finishing the quick release knot with the lead rope before closing the distance, "Kegan tells me you need help rounding up a loose...alpaca?"

It was not in the bingo of today’s shenanigans that Taylor heard the trip wire alarm go off. Her cameras picked up some town kids breaking and entering, and when greeted by the neighbor’s dog – fled. Which also left one of the gates and barn door open. She was going to have a stern word with the kid’s parents if the neighbors didn’t get to them first.
She had thankfully managed to get most of the herd that fled back in, but there was the one that was playing hard to get. Mainly because she was too much of an explorer and saw chasing as a game. But Tina loved horses. It was something that Taylor witnessed when a few riders came by and the Alpaca was goo-goo gaga for it. Taylor was going to use this information today and phoned the ranch up, and Kegan swiftly sent someone over. She was curious to see the poor sod that was sent over.
After making sure the gate had a replaced lock, Talor heard the sound of tires on the drive. She made her way out, already looking like she fought a bear. It took her a minute to register who it was. “Ah what’d you do to piss the boss lady off?” she snorted. “Yeah, I had a break-in, unfortunately. Some asshole kids. I guess they weren’t strong enough since my fence can be climbed, but they decided they needed to break it. I got most of them in, but I have one that is still loose. I’m about to have some breakfast and coffee. You need to eat?”
At least Kegan sent an attractive one. Well, to be fair – most of the people on that ranch were attractive. But Raleigh was at least old enough for Taylor that she didn’t feel icky about it.
Taylor Way looked more rough than usual, but he never expected a farm girl to looked totally in check when it came to looks. However, as she stared at him and the silence dragged on, Raleigh had begun to wonder if his boss had even given her friend a head's up that he was coming over. Then, came the sass. An eyebrow quirked as his blue eyes stared at Taylor - were all farm girls like this as well? No wonder Kegan was friends with her, "Well...I did ask her if wrangling an alpaca was a joke." He knew that wasn't the reason for being sent out here though.
He stood patiently as the woman recounted her story, surprised she kept it g-rated when it came to her words. Raleigh remained silent though, until nearly the end, "Only one?" The slight was there in his voice, unable to contain it. She needed help catching one, single alpaca? His gaze looked to Whiskey now, the horse patiently standing and dozing off now. He wondered what the ranch horse would think of 'only one' alpaca as well. Raleigh's gaze returned to Taylor now, wondering if he should even accept her offer after questioning the situation. He supposed he was rude either way.
"Coffee's fine. Ranch fed me already," he replied, "Lead the way." Her lack of reference to the truck, trailer, and the horse made him think they were fine where they were. What Raleigh couldn't make of - was Taylor's gaze. It seemed to linger, but only for a second, "Did you report the kids or do you need me show up on their doorstep as well?" Raleigh asked, following after her now as he was invited into her world.

Taylor chuckled and smiled. “Sounds good. Ignore the mess. I'm still in the process of cleaning up from some home improvement.” She led Raleigh into her quaint kitchen. Even though Taylor looked like someone who could read as high maintenance, she loved the old style of wall paper and fun crown molding.
“No, I haven't reported the kids. But I know who they are. Us farm folk have our own way of dealing with shit like that.” Taylor grabbed a mug and poured a cup of coffee before handing it to Raleigh. “Cream or sugar?” She offered before topping off her own cup.
“My game plan for this loose alpaca is for you to ride around a bit. Just a walk or trot. It's silly but I think the one that's missing is the one obsessed with horses. Like a porn addiction.”

He grunted at her comment, given he hardly would be gone to judge her on the state of her mess. Quite frankly, Raleigh didn't have a lot of ground to stand on when it came to judging other people when he already judged himself. Blue eyes looked at the wallpaper and crown molding, mulling something over but then chose to ignore it. Taylor's statement of 'us farm folk have our own way of dealing with shit like that' caused his eyes to snap to her now, a faint smile crossing his lips, "You almost sounded American there."
Raleigh shook his head curtly, saving his coffee from being ruined. He took the cup from Taylor now, gently for a gruff man, and he managed to avoid even touching her hand - listening to her game plan quietly. It was an odd one to say the least. He really wasn't understanding what he could do that Kegan couldn't have done to help out her own friend, "You riding a gator near us or on the back with me?" Or maybe she wasn't riding at all, "Or...Whiskey and I are the pretty bait horse porn and you lasso the alpaca?"
